The life and work of Mikhail Andreevich Savitsky is one of the most characteristic phenomena in the art and history of our time. His biography is inseparable from his work, just as in his personal life art and history are inseparable. The artist created an image of his time, an image of the existence of the Soviet era.

Mikhail Andreevich Savitsky is the author of more than 200 large-scale plot-thematic paintings. The main themes of his work are: the Great Patriotic War and the heroic feat of the people in the fight against the Nazi invaders; the crimes of fascism against man and humanity; peaceful creative work; historical and revolutionary theme; the image of a woman; the theme of bread; the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant; biblical theme; images of figures of art, science, culture.

More than one hundred paintings by M.A. Savitsky are in the collection of the Museum of the History of the City of Minsk. More than seventy of them are presented in the permanent exhibition of the Mikhail Savitsky Art Gallery. Thanks to the artist's conviction in the importance of his work and his strict civic position, almost all of his works remained in his homeland - in Belarus. Some of the works are in the collections of museums in the Russian Federation and Bulgaria. Thus, among the Belarusian institutions, the custodians of Mikhail Andreevich's legacy are: the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus, the National Center for Contemporary Arts of the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, the Yanka Kupala State Literary Museum, the Brest Regional Museum of Local History, the Mogilev Regional Museum of Local History named after E.R. Romanov, the Vitebsk Regional Museum of the Hero of the Soviet Union M.F. Shmyrev, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the National Library of Belarus.

Works by M.A. Savitsky's works are also kept in the collections of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Autonomous Cultural Institution of the Tyumen Region "Tyumen Museum and Educational Association", the Kaliningrad Regional Museum of Fine Arts, the Municipal Budgetary Cultural Institution "Magnitogorsk Art Gallery", the State Museum and Exhibition Center "ROSIZO", and the National Art Gallery of Bulgaria (Sofia).
